Initial Semiologic Pro Installation 3
This lesson is the third part in a series. We should already have a WordPress installation completed before following this step. Here we are going to access the Semiologic Members area and get the latest stable release that we will then download to our computer.
Accessing the Semiologic Pro Members Area
It is important to note that you need to be an owner of the Semiologic Pro Package to access this area.
Download the Stable Package
Click the link that say Stable Package.
Click the Download link for the Stable Package
The stable package that you are downloading from the Semiologic site to your computer will the latest release version of Semiologic. This means that it has been tested thoroughly and is working on production sites.
The Semiologic Pro software on your hard drive
The sem-pro.zip file is what actually gets downloaded to your computer.
What I like to do and suggest you do is make a copy and rename so as you know the release and date of the download. I do this before I unzip it so that my extracted folder retains the same name.
This helps you keep more organized in my opinion. I show the extracted folder in this screen shot also.
Screenshot inside the extracted folder
This shows the files and folders that exist under the WordPress folder of your Semiologic Pro package.
Moving the config.php file from your website to your computer
You will use a FTP program to access your computer and download the config.php file to your computer in your WordPRess folder of your Semiologic Pro package.
The reason we do this is that we need to make some changes to the wp-config-sample.php file on our computer. So we need information such as Database Username, Database Name and Database Password to transfer the wp-config.php file we just downloaded from our website.
Video of Semiologic Download and Download of our config.php file
This video demonstrates the previous steps shown. We are accessing the Semiologic Membership site downloading the file to our hard drive. I then show you a way to keep your files organized. This to me is an important part as you will have multiple files due to the upgrades you will receive as part of your membership.
I then show you how to download the config.php file from your website to your hard drive.
