The FIRST thing you want to do is make sure you have the "Right Plugins" turned on. we do this by selecting Plugins which will take us to the Plugins directory.

3. The Inline Widgets Plug-in

wpid292-the-inline-widgets-plug-in.png

In your Plugins directory you will find the Inline widgets Plugin in your Plugin directory. The Inline widgets is necessary, this is what starts the entire process of inserting Widgets into your content. The content can be inside a post or a page. In this tutorial we are only dealing with pages.

Make sure this plug-in is activated.

4. Silo Widgets

wpid293-silo-widgets.png

The next Plugin that we want Make sure is activated is the Silo Widgets. The Silo widgets are what makes everything work for the Silo Effect. This ensures that the child pages will silo under your parent page with the same TAG name. (demonstration)

5. Create your Parent Page

Since all of our necessary Plugins are activated, we can now create our parent page.

6. Setting your New Page in Semiologic Wordpress

1. Create a "Title"
2. Add your content. For the Parent page you really do not want more than one or two paragraphs that will come before your Silo Stub or Child Pages.

7. Inserting the Silo Stub

In order for the "Silo Stub" to work, the Parent Page and all the Child Pages need to have the same TAG. In this tutorial we will be using the TAG "demonstration"

11. Saving your Page

After you save your page in step one, the title of this page will now show up in your page drop down list. step two of this image is the after effect.

12. Create a New Page – The First Child Page

wpid282-create-a-new-page-the-first-child-page.png

In this step we create a new page, we add the title and then we add the content.

13. Add the Tag

wpid283-add-the-tag.png

Since the tag is already added, it starts to auto complete. We can click on the auto complete in step two and then press add for step three. this child page now has a tag of demonstration, which will automatically link it to the parent page with the same tag of demonstration.

15. Modify our Page in Widgets

wpid285-modify-our-page-in-widgets.png

1. Notice how we have changed the title from "Child Page One" to "Child Page 1". This title when filled out in this field will show all in your parent page as I showed in the example at the beginning of this tutorial.

2. This is a short excerpt that will show underneath the title and generally should not be more than one or two sentences. It is to provide a brief description so the user will click through to the full page.

16. Choose the Parent page

wpid286-choose-the-parent-page.png

In this step since this will be a child page we now choose the parent page that we want it assigned to.

At this point with all of the steps completed a child page is complete.

The next step is to save this page.

17. Website Display of the Parent Page

This is what your Parent Page looks like in the Silo Nav Menu, which resides in the sidebar.

18. Display of the Child Pages on the Website

wpid288-display-of-the-child-pages-on-the-website.png

The child pages only show after the parent page is clicked. This is the action that takes place on the "Silo Nav Menu"

This is the result of your "Silo Stub" Parent page. You can now see why it is important to keep the "text" about the "Silo Stub" to few paragraphs so your Child Pages show, more clearly.

There is a better image in the last step of this tutorial.
