Understanding FTP Programs for Manual Installation
Understanding FTP programs is the first step to starting the Manual installation process.
I have also included a video at the bottom of this printed tutorial.
What is FTP?
FTP - File Transfer Protocol. Pay attention to those words....File Transfer Protocol.........It is the transferring of files from your PC to your Web Server (a computer on the internet) to make your website.
In addition you can download files from your Web Server or Website back to your PC. There are plenty of programs that do this and we will be covering the one I use.
Finding a Program
Okay we now go to our favorite search engine, for this example, it just happened to choose Google. I typed in FTP programs.
FTP Search Results
The program that I recommend just happens to be at the top of the search results for FTP programs. The program name is FileZilla, just in case you do not get the same search results that I did. The URL, in case you do not see is filezilla-project.org/.
The FileZilla Website
Once we are on the website, we want to select the FileZilla client. The FileZilla client is designed for use on your PC. Since will be uploading files from an PC this is the recommended application.
Choosing your Operating System
You can see the different choices of operating systems for which you need to download. Since I have Windows I will be selecting the recommended Windows File. Please choose the recommended file.
The FileZilla download
It will take a couple seconds for the "Saved File" window to appear, so just be patient. Once the window appears, please click the "save file" button
Find the downloaded FileZilla file on your hard drive.
This is a small version of what looks like on my hard drive, this is in the view thumbnail. Click or double-click to start the program.
Starting the Installation of FileZilla
Another window comes up, after you click the FileZilla file. Now you will click the "Run" button on this new window.
FileZilla installation continued
Click the "I Agree" button.
FileZilla installation continued - 2
in this window since I already have FileZilla installed it is asking me if I want to upgrade. Your choices will be a little bit different. It might say "typical installation" or something else similar to "new installation". Just be sure to choose the recommended option, and you will be fine.
Finishing the FileZilla installation
Keep the check mark in place for the start FileZilla and now, and then click finish. I want you to start the program now so I can show you a little bit how the program is used.
Using FileZilla to access your website.
In order to have FileZilla access your website you need to do a couple steps first.
1. Type in your hostname, and type it in exactly like this yourwebsite.com. When using an FTP program. You do not need the HTTP or the www.
2. Type in your username, this is the username you use for your Cpanel.
3. Type in your password, this is the password you use for your Cpanel.
Leave "Port" blank
4. Click the "Quickconnect" button.
The FileZilla program live
As you can see in this screenshot we have our PC computer on the left, and our website or host on the right.
Uploading files
READ THIS SUMMARY FIRST
In the screenshot, you will notice on step one where the folder "testupload" Is lightly shaded "gray". When it was first selected it is a little darker. This is an important step you need to ensure, then it stays lightly shaded "gray" when now going to step two to choose the file to upload.
If your target folder does not remain selected on the website side you will upload files to the wrong place, and this can interrupt the workability of your website.
Now once you have your file selected in step two. If you "right-click" it the menu appears and shows what to select for step three to upload the file to your website.
1. Choose the destination folder on your website.
2. Select the file you want to upload.
3. "Right-Click" the selected file and choose the menu option upload.
The uploaded file on your website
In this screenshot we see the uploaded file in the correct folder.
Uploading multiple files
I just wanted to let you know that you can upload multiple folders and files to your webhost at once. Basically all you have to do is select the top folder or file (not the folder with the 2 ..) then on your keyboard select the "Ctrl-Shift and End" keys to select all the files and folders, then I right-click to upload.

Please turn your speakers up if you are unable to hear.
