This tutorial should help greatly any newcomers to the WordPress environment.
Why WordPress?
WordPress is much more than a blog platform. WordPress can be used to build dynamic or static websites. These tutorials will show many different techniques to accomplish anything you want with your website.
Notice some of the large organizations that do use WordPress as part of their website.
WordPress Installation Overview
There are Two (2) ways to install WordPress, "Automatic" or "Manual".
The WordPress application or website consists of Two (2) major components.
No. 1 Is the WordPress Application itself.
No. 2 Is the MySQL Database (Content, Parameters, and Settings).
WordPress installation overview – the Five-minute installation
Here is the overview, when you install WordPress "Automatically" through the Fantastico Application. When installing automatically you have a choice to make your own username and password for the Adminstration User (you).
I cover this more in the chapter on "automatic" installation Automatic Installation you will see a more step-by-step process on how to perform this process.
WordPress Installation Overview – The Manual Way
Here is the overview, showing how the pieces are put together in a "Manual" installation. The First step is to create a MySQL Database then create a Database User. This provides the Database User "Privileges" to access to the MySQL Database.
Creating a Database and User is really not that difficult, it really is just a matter of pushing buttons. However it is important to keep track of what you are doing. I cover this more in the Manual Installation Tutorial
You will notice though that the Username for the Administrator function will be set to admin, when you install WordPress manually.
WordPress to MySQL Overview Diagram
This diagram is to help you understand how important the MySQL Database is to your WordPress installation.
You do not need to be concerned with remembering this at this time. I just thought this diagram might assist you in better understanding the relationships of Users and Passwords.
Again I would like to remind you that you will see detailed steps in both video and print on how to install WordPress and customize it for your use.
